Does food security exist among farm households? Evidence from Ghana

Abstract Background Food security exists when households have physical, social and economic access to sufficient, safe nutritious food at all times that meets their dietary needs preferences for an active healthy life. remains a serious challenge many in Ghana the situation is even more prevalent among smallholder farmers. Therefore, this study had its objectives assess status also estimate determinants policy recommendations. Methodology Using data collected from 2,603 farm across employing ordered probit model of were assessed. The indicator, Consumption Score (FCS) which combines diet diversity, frequency consumption relative nutritional importance different groups was used determine households. Results showed (76%) within acceptable household groups. Nonetheless, 19% 6% households, respectively, borderline poor groups, respectively. Determinants included experience, gender, improved variety adoption, credit location. Conclusion risk Ghana.
